Three rows: score and payout

Subsequence Steps has three independent rows, each with five independent uniform digits 0–4. Keep the original left-to-right order and find the longest strictly increasing subsequence: selected cells may skip intervening cells, but equal digits cannot extend it. Lengths below three score zero; lengths three, four and five score 9, 16 and 25. The display highlights one longest subsequence after settlement.

Before play choose Low, Medium or High. A positive raw score is transformed by square root, identity or square; zero remains zero. Each row uses one third of the total stake. Its gross multiplier is 0.96 times the transformed score divided by that mode’s exact mean over all 3,125 equally likely row patterns. The three row returns are added. The displayed return includes the stake, not net profit, and fractional credits are carried forward.

For example, the row 0, 2, 1, 3, 0 has an increasing subsequence of length three: 0, 2, 3 or 0, 1, 3. Its raw score is 9, not a nine-coin payout. In Medium mode the exact mean raw score is 3.7568, so the row gross multiplier is 0.96 × 9 / 3.7568, approximately 2.2998. A row stake of ten therefore contributes about 22.998 virtual coins before fractional carry; the other two rows settle separately.

Weighting changes amounts, not positive-score frequency

Exact enumeration gives 1,897 zero-score patterns, 1,131 patterns scoring 9, 96 scoring 16 and one scoring 25. All three modes have exactly 96% expected gross return. A row’s chance of a positive return is 1,228/3,125 in every mode: weighting changes amounts, not the chance that its raw score is positive. Short sessions can differ from the expectation. A previous round does not alter the next independent draw.

Wallet, refill and auto controls

The wallet begins at 1,000 virtual coins. Balance and fractional credits persist in browser localStorage across reloads. When the balance is below the smallest stake, free refill sets it to 1,000; it does not add 1,000. Clearing this site’s storage resets local progress, while clearing cached files alone need not do so. Virtual coins cannot be purchased, withdrawn or converted to cash.

Select stake and weighting before starting. Auto runs at most ten rounds. Stop prevents further rounds while the current round settles. Stake, mode and refill controls are locked during settlement. There is no account, deposit or real-money prize. No betting choice can remove the 4% expected loss in this demo.

Time limits and local-law questions

Choose a time limit and take breaks. Increasing the stake after losses cannot improve the expected return. Auto and Stop are practical demo controls, not a guarantee that playing habits are under control. External deposit limits or self-exclusion facilities have not been verified.
